Here's a guide on How to Take Care of Stitches . 1. Keep the Area Clean and Dry The first few days after getting stitches are critical. Keep the stitched area dry to allow the wound to start healing. If the doctor has applied a bandage, leave it on for the duration they recommend, usually 24 to 48 hours. After this period, you can gently clean the area with soap and water. Avoid soaking the wound in water, such as during baths, for at least the first 48 hours. 2. Avoid Strain on the Wound Excessive movement or strain can cause the stitches to break open or delay healing. Avoid activities that could stretch or pressure the stitched area.
