Dubstep’s roots trace back to the UK’s garage and drum and bass scenes, where early pioneers experimented with darker, more experimental sounds. London, specifically Croydon, became the epicenter of this burgeoning sound. The producers and DJs of the era began slowing down garage beats and emphasizing the lower frequencies, giving rise to a bass-centric genre with syncopated rhythms and minimalistic, often eerie atmospheres. These early tracks laid the groundwork for what would eventually become the modern dubstep sound.
